An artist needs to stand out from the rest, and for young upcoming artist Matthew Gwyer, standing out is what he hopes to achieve.
Matthew Gwyer is an artist from Maine, and today he shares with us what he hopes to achieve with his work someday.
Matthew Gwyer was born and raised in the pine tree state, and attended the University of Southern Maine. While art was not the focus of his studies, he did find time between his school work to practice his blossoming skills as an artist. He even enrolled in a studio art class to better hone his skills.
“When I wasn’t doing actual coursework for the class, I was making my own art on my own time, just trying to think of new creative ways to make things that I thought looked, you know, visually appealing. Mostly just having fun with it and having it be something that I could use to relax and sort of relieve stress,” says Gwyer.
This hobby continued to develop into a strong passion that Matthew Gwyer hopes to build a livelihood out of.
His art has now been displayed at one of the USM art galleries, and he has begun selling his work online. One of his pieces, series one of his liquified paintings, has already sold out. Now, Matthew Gwyer has even bigger plans for his work.
While discussing his hopes for his work, he reflected on wall art. Matthew Gwyer wants to design wall art specifically tailored to the room in which it will be displayed. Customers would send in reference photos and a general color scheme of their room, and Matthew will personally design a canvas painting that matches the room’s aesthetic. Then, of course, the customer has the freedom to provide details on what they want from the piece.
“I want to create custom work that suits the client so that they have something that’s totally unique to them,” says Matthew Gwyer, when sharing his hopes for his work.
